"Cast Your Vote, Choose Your Leader"

Bismillahirahmanirahim

Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah, we have been given the opportunity to witness the new leaders that could lead us either into a better educational-environment or the worst. The choice is upon you and my hand. SRC general election is back!

Today, it would be the day for us to vote, as other universities in Malaysia had done their votes, choosing their next leader. This election is a training for us students in order to prepare us for the national election in the near future. Through this election, we learn not only to vote, but also to make a wise decision. Putting a trust into our next leader.

IIUM has 62 candidates for 31 seats for national students while international students have 6 candidates for 5 seats. In Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) we have four candidates awaits to be elected for 2 seats available in each kulliyah.

To choose our leader, is not just based on their appearances, we have to take other criteria into consideration. Understand the manifesto given by the candidates is not a 100% guarantees that the candidates is the best leader. However, manifesto is the means to know what the candidates offer to us. Learn their background, attitudes as well as how they treats their colleagues and friends. Hopefully, through these, we knew that we have make the wise decision. For our KENM future.

Labeling people as 'Pro-Aspirasi' or 'Pro-Mahasiswa' and cast votes based on this criterion is not a sensible as what we expected from an intelligent and intellectual university students. Choose your leader according to their character, charisma, responsibility and accountability. Our leader should not be the 'exclusive' one, but our leader should be a person that could reach everyone, that we are not afraid to approach.

Yet again, the decision is yours. We still have ample time to cast our votes. Let do our responsibility

"Cast your vote, Choose your leader"

Student Prospects on Financial Aids

Often students found among the problems they encountered during their life as a student is financial difficulties; academic fees, accommodation fees, books and stationery, and living expenses. Many associations tried to help students as to reduce the burden in order for the students to be able to focus more on their studies.

Thus, several options provided for students to utilize and help them further their studies. I would like to highlight two points that recently become a ‘hot topic’ among students themselves as well as government and other related parties.

Firstly, issue of PTPTN and it significance. Since 1997 until 2012, there have been a lot of controversial of this issue. First, related to the interest that being imposed to the borrower; students. The rationale of the interest is to cover the administration expenses; however, the interest is high far than reasonable. Many complains occurs and the chairman of PTPTN, Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said reduce the interest after consulting the expert. Nevertheless, the numbers of students that fail to pay the loan are high.

Again, PTPTN revise the systems for the borrowers to be able to make the payments. Few methods suggested such as, reducing monthly repayment, lengthening the repayment period, postponing the start of repayment time, and lowering and eliminating interest. Moreover, students graduate with 1st class are exempted to pay the loan. This could encourage students to study harder.

Secondly, students can rejoice as government is providing new facilities that would be implementing immediately on the September, 2012; first term of new semester. It is named as 1 Malaysia Student Discount Card (KADS1M). This card will be distributed through respected universities for free. However upon losing the card, student needs to pay RM2 to replace it.

The advantages of this KADS1M are, students could enjoy up to 60% for any purchases of foods, books and stationeries, sport equipments, clothing, clinics, optometry, IT products, and many more at any stores that collaborates with KADS1M programme. It was reported that 51 companies already sign a contract with government as an indication of supporting government intention to lessen students’ difficulties. Any inquiries on this programme, click this link: http://www.1pengguna.com/kads1m/index.php?pg=main/home

Students should use this opportunity wisely and especially to improve their study. PTPTN and other scholars give them chance to further their study in higher education. While there still some argument on the significance of PTPTN, we can’t deny that through PTPTN, more students have the opportunity to further their study. Given KADS1M to students, could help them to save more money as they are given with lowest possible price for any facilities they wished to use. This could help them to pay the PTPTN after finish their study.

Malaysian Airlines: Share-swap issues.

Recently, it is official the share-swap between our two big airlines: MAS and AirAsia has been terminated due of some issues.  MAS and AirAsia had been in collaboration since 9 August last year.  The collaboration looks good especially for MAS where they had incurred lost about RM2.5bil for financial year ended Dec 31, 2011 until their decision to do share-swap.  The unions and employees do not want the share-swap due lack of engagement, fear of losing their job and the deal was also not in MAS’ favor thus brought their complaint to Government.

Before it is official to terminate the deal, there were lots of comments, issues and criticisms to these both airlines. The Group chief executive officer AirAsia Group, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said “for the few negative detractors who made the most noise, I wonder what their solution is for MAS”.  AirAsia make the deal for share-swap in order to save MAS where he sees there are no alternative ways said Tony. For Tony, he did not see the negative impact about the deal and he thought that it will be very welcomed universally by the country. The point is to save MAS and Tony see the oppurnity to save it and then the ‘noise’ came up.

And now, it is officially the deal was off.  Tune Air gave back 20.5% share in MAS and Khazanah get back their 20.5% shares in MAS where originally owned by Tune Air thus increase their shares in MAS from 49% to 69.5%. However, the collaboration involve aircraft purchasing, engineering, ground support services, cargo services catering and training is still on.

As local airlines, both MAS and AirAsia should collaborate since there is least negative impact on it. Furthermore, MAS should think the best alternatives way to cover up their net loss immediately. They should ignore the selfishness and think about their 20,000 employees. Both MAS and AirAsia can gain profit if their proposal for collaboration is plan well. The price war will never end as the customers nowadays keep on increasing and wise in choosing the best price offered. As a customer, basically we only choose for the best price and services offered. For now, both of it are at AirAsia.

Finally: Exam weeks 11/12

Alhamdulillah, praise to Allah for we manage to go through another semester, Insya Allah with gaining new knowledge and polishing the old knowledge.

Credit: Mr. Google
We may already read too many exams tips. Although it may be the case, lets us revisit and revise the tips and hopefully it could help us in preparation for our final exams. I would like to bring one hadith that we can relate it to our current situation (exam) and may this hadith brought us together and strengthen our iman, leading us to our Almighty Lord, Allah s.w.t. Hadith 19, from 40 hadith of Imam Nawawi

On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, who said : One day I was behind the prophet and he said to me: "Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice] : Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."
-Narrated by  Imam Tarmizi, who said this hadith  is true and fine hadith

In a version other than Imam Tarmizi, its read:

"..Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you; and that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship."

Above all the tips that we have read in preparing for exams from various resources, we must not forgot that the most important point is to not lose hope and always ask for HIS help and protection. Pray and pray and pray. In surah Ali-Imran, 3 verse 160 Allah said:

"If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely"

We may feel the subject is difficult to understand during our revision, and sometimes are lazy enough to study due to internal and external forces. We may be distracted by problems that occurs during this semesters and any family matters. That is why, we should turn back to our Almighty Lord, Allah s.w.t.

Allah could aid us as HE wishes. Allah also could forsake us. Leave us helplessly facing this hardship. When encountered with tricky and complex subjects, we ask for HIS guidance. Pray that HE make things easier for us to understand. Being distracted, pray that HE will made us focus on the matters.

Bear in mind that, although our Almighty Lord, Allah, s.w.t. said that HE will aid us, as we ask for HIS help, Allah also mention in Surah Ar-Ra'd, verse 11:

"For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah. Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah). But when Allah wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector."

We need to do the revision. We need to overcome the feeling of being lazy. We need to try harder to be more focus in the matters on hand (exam). Organize our priority. So that we could see the future more clearly. So that, we could focus on the important matters first, according to our priority. Insya Allah.

And lastly, after all the difficulties and struggles, we tawakkaltu 'alallah. We have tried our best and HE knew our efforts. Whatever the results, it is the best for us. Be it fail or success, that is what we deserved to get. And for every failure, there is a wisdom behind it. Find the wisdom and brace it, Insya Allah, it will increase our iman,  rather than mopping around regretting the result.

To conclude, below is the list that we could follow in preparing for exams:

1- Pray/Du'a
2- Focus
3- Revisions
4- Pray/Du'a
5- Pray/Du'a
6- Pray/Du'a
7- Tawakkaltu 'alallah
